Open source eCommerce with Magento
I’ve always been a osCommerce user, I tried other packages but always found my way back to osCommerce because of the community. Recently I’ve been working with Magento. What is Magento? you ask. Magento is the ultimate ecommerce platform, it has all of the features like inventory control, attribute groups, multi-store support and most importantly a template engine. I am on my 2nd week of working with the system and so far the only thing that is lacking is speed. The programmers at Varien did a great job with this system I am sure they are working on incorporation querie caching with the next major release.

Interesting, I haven’t heard of Magento before now, how does the contribution/module support compare to that of OsCommerce, as despite OsC failings in some areas, it really makes up for it with it’s immense directory of contributions. Decent templating would be a godsend though!

There are quite a few contributions, not as many as OsC. You should see that way you install extensions in the magento system. It does it via some PEAR CLI that downloads the extension remotely and installs it. The template system is a learning curve in magento but once you get the hang of it is quite good.

I’ve always been a osCommerce user too, I tried other packages like zencart x-cart creloaded joomla virtuemart. But now I am working only with Magento. Magento is really the ultimate ecommerce platform, it has all of the best features.
