I’ve always been a osCommerce user too, I tried other packages like zencart x-cart creloaded joomla virtuemart. But now I am working only with Magento. Magento is really the ultimate ecommerce platform, it has all of the best features.

There are quite a few contributions, not as many as OsC. You should see that way you install extensions in the magento system. It does it via some PEAR CLI that downloads the extension remotely and installs it. The template system is a learning curve in magento but once you get the hang of it is quite good.

Interesting, I haven't heard of Magento before now, how does the contribution/module support compare to that of OsCommerce, as despite OsC failings in some areas, it really makes up for it with it's immense directory of contributions. Decent templating would be a godsend though!
